What is Radiesse®?

Today there are many injectable fillers available for you to use for facial rejuvenation. The RADIESSE injectable wrinkle filler, offered by Dr. Maia Chakerian in Los Gatos, CA, is a wonderful option for mild to moderate wrinkles and lines on the face and for reversing age-related loss of fullness in the skin. Patients who might not have time for repeat appointments will appreciate the lasting results (in many cases, lasting well over a year) of RADIESSE. With microspheres of calcium hydroxyapatite in a water-based gel, RADIESSE plumps and softens the look of your face with minimally invasive treatment. RADIESSE has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to safely volumize your facial features. It can be used in tandem with other injectable treatments (wrinkle relaxers and fillers) for a unique procedure to rejuvenate your skin for your personal needs. Look younger and improve your confidence with RADIESSE injectable wrinkle fillers at Sereno Santé in Los Gatos, CA.

who qualifies for radiesse?

Men and women who are in good health and have mild to moderate wrinkles and lines are great patients for RADIESSE injectable treatments. This procedure treats marionette lines, smile lines, pre-jowl folds, chin wrinkles, and lines that form on the edges of the mouth. RADIESSE is also approved to correct volume that is often lost with age in the hands to make them smoother and younger-looking. You shouldn't receive this treatment if you are allergic to lidocaine or other ingredients in RADIESSE. Be sure to talk to Dr. Chakerian about any allergies (whether mild or severe) and if you have a history of any bleeding disorders. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, may be pregnant, or are considering pregnancy in the next 1 – 2 years, you shouldn't get RADIESSE injections.

How is this procedure performed?

RADIESSE dermal injections are performed in one of the treatment rooms at Sereno Santé in about 30 – 60 minutes once you have completed the initial consultation. To start the procedure, you will be seated in a relaxed position while the injection sites will be cleaned and marked. Many patients feel mild discomfort throughout their procedure at the first prick, but if preferred, a numbing agent can be spread on the treatment sites to avoid any potential pain. The dosage of RADIESSE selected during your consultation will be placed in an ultra-fine syringe. The marked injection sites will guide the injector to carefully administer RADIESSE into the face. After the treatment is finished, a cold compress may be applied to alleviate swelling and bruising.

what should I expect following treatment?

Following your treatment, you may see some redness, swelling, and bruising. This is common and should only last for about a week. These side effects can typically be covered with cosmetics. If the bruising, swelling, or redness lasts longer or seems excessive, please do not hesitate to call Sereno Santé. Many patients see visible results immediately, with better results appearing over time. Your face will appear younger, softer, and more radiant. RADIESSE tends to last longer compared to other dermal fillers — up to 1 – 2 years. You can talk to Dr. Maia Chakerian at your appointment about when to get your next injection to touch up your results.

Radiesse FAQs

How much does RADIESSE cost?
The cost of Radiesse is based on how much is needed to reach your goals. In your consult at our practice, we will ask about your needs and wants so they can develop your custom treatment plan. Then, they can discuss your estimated costs and payment options.

How does RADIESSE compare to other fillers?
Fillers all have unique properties and formulas to fit different concerns. Common filler ingredients are hyaluronic acid (HA), calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHa), poly-L-lactic acid, and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). RADIESSE uses calcium-based microspheres, which are comparable to hyaluronic acid injectable fillers due to the natural ability to increase collagen production in your body. In your initial consult, your injector will explain the different dermal filler brands and assess your skin's tone and volume to determine which one matches your needs.

Are RADIESSE injections painful?
Typically, patients do not need numbing cream prior to their injections. However, numbing cream can be provided if you are worried about any discomfort. New patients only experience slight discomfort as the needle goes in.

What are the side effects of RADIESSE?
RADIESSE treatments rarely produce serious side effects if done by a skilled injector, like the ones at Sereno Santé. In your initial consult, talk to your injector about your medical history and if you have any known allergies to avoid a reaction. Immediately following your treatment, you may develop mild redness, bruising, itching, or numbness. This is temporary and will be gone within a day or two.

What other procedures can I combine with RADIESSE?
Injections of RADIESSE may be done along with other injectable and nonsurgical treatments to help achieve your ideal results. Some patients inject fillers, such as RADIESSE, along with BOTOX, or other muscle relaxants, to produce a refreshed appearance. Talk to your injector before your treatment to find out about procedures that complement the results of RADIESSE dermal filler injections.
